From the Listening Post

At Uta’s Green Scene

What a month and a half! It started with a little wind the evolved into Hurricane Irene which stripped our pastor & Mary’s home of several of its sheltering trees. The trees were snapped in half and took their garage down. Both cars were smashed, one salvageable after several weeks of extensive repairs and thanks to Kit Kitner, a fine replacement for the other.

As we took a deep breath, many of us found ourselves in preparation for flooding conditions. While the rummage sale was postponed a week, our left-over merchandise was well received by flood relief coordinators and our own reverend’s “Need A Garage” sale. We pray for sunshine and eager shoppers.

Our friend, Kirk, has been found and his address is in the office. Let’s write to support his healing often.

Then we had our first Health Fair, meticulously prepared by our own Betty Habler and Grace Taylor. Wow! What an overwhelming success! You two are super organizers! Every available corner of the center found yet another health participant offering massages, lectures, demonstrations, classes, testings, recipes, samples, and Zumba dancing! Every vendor deserves our deepest thanks for sharing their expertise.

Is that enough now? NO! Even with the postponement of movie night, “The Lamp” was presented and greatly received. There’s even a special setting on the gift DVD for the visually impaired. The way the story’s narrative is woven also conveys the audio message brilliantly. Great stuff!

Still my report isn’t finished without celebrating the One Love concert, brought in by Grace Taylor. Thank you, thank you, for sounds we’ve never seen, instruments we’ve never heard, and songs we’ve never known we missed! I don’t know in how many languages we honored Divinity throughout the many world cultures. The chants were so hauntingly beautiful that while we had difficulty clapping in applause, our hands were moved along to their primordial rhythms. With blissful abandon, the dancing and hula hooping began in the aisles. We celebrated the love of God as He and She is experienced in realms far removed from the every day patterns of our little NEPA world. A song sheet with translations has found a home on our bulletin board or on onelovechant.com with several recordings. I also want to thank you, Grace for the amazing array of authentic foods and thank you, 21st century for appreciation of diversity!
